Costa Calida sights and information

The south-eastern province of Murcia is where you’ll find the Costa Calida. It border the Costa Blanca in the north and the Costa Almería in the south. It also has kilometres of sandy beaches, with beautiful forests and dunes, interspersed with quaint villages housing wonderful little bars and restaurants.

Swimming is possible in the Mar Menor. This shallow sea warms up quickly, allowing for pleasant water temperatures early in the year. This is a fine beach for children as well.

The Costa Calida features diverse cities, of which the most famous is the historic port city of Cartagena. Cultural enthusiasts can immerse themselves to their heart’s content in the array of impressive monuments and museums and the treasure trove of architectural remains. The city was a strategically fortified port city on the Mediterranean for two thousand years.

Another recommendation is Mazarrón, where you can enjoy unique wonders of nature. Diving in the famous bay is quite popular, but the charming rocks are also well worth visiting. Still prefer the sunshine and the sea? Then enjoy the 35-kilometre long beach of Mazarrón. The Costa Calida has 315 days of sunshine each year.

A wonderful city for sightseeing is Áquilas. This city houses many buildings from the nineteenth century. The local city hall is gorgeous, but the exceptional church also draws many visitors. Áquilas is truly a destination for tourists, where you can also enjoy a delicious bit to eat or a drink.

Five-kilometres’ distance from the San Javier airport is the coastal town of Los Alcázares. Take wonderful walks alongside the azure sea here. The white houses of the harbour create an atmosphere of unequalled Mediterranean conviviality. Fun as well: the golf course or visiting the historic fortress.

Finally, we have Santiago de la Ribera, an old fishermen’s town with beautiful beaches, but there are also little lakes where you can take a refreshing swim. Enjoy a delicious fish-course and a heavenly Spanish wine, whilst enjoying the calm rushing of the waves.
