Do you already know in where you would like to purchase a property in Spain?

Aug 12, 2022

Spain is a very big country, with varied landscapes. Each area has its advantages and disadvantages, which can make it quite difficult to answer the question: If I want to buy a house in Spain, where exactly?

In this article, we therefore list all the facts about the different places that Spain has to offer, so that you can weigh up for yourself what is most important. Whether you are looking for the heat or a milder climate, green nature or idyllic beaches, there is always something for you.

The different Costas

Most likely, some of the coasts in Spain already sound familiar to you. The Costa Blanca and the Costa del Sol in particular are popular holiday and residential destinations for most people. But why actually? And what else are there? We take you along the coast.

The North: Costa Verde, Costa Cantabria and Costa Vasca

We start in the north of Spain, with the three coasts that lie here: the Costa Verde, Costa Cantabria and Costa Vasca. Even though this is a beautiful area, not many people decide to buy a property in this area.

The reason for this is that you don't have to go there for the good weather. The north is known for rainfall, which makes it a very green but also wet area. Besides, there are only a few direct international flights, which makes it more difficult to reach.

Advantages: nature, green areas, delicious food

Cons: weather and climate

The East: Costa Brava, Costa Dorada, Costa del Azahar, Costa de Valencia, Costa Blanca and Costa Cálida

In the east of the country we find most of the Costas: the Costa Brava, Costa Dorada, Costa del Azahar, Costa de Valencia, Costa Blanca and Costa Cálida.

The Costa Blanca and Costa Cálida in particular are very popular for tourists. We understand why, because there is a nice climate and the beaches are breathtaking! In summer it is pleasantly warm, but not too hot. Even in winter the temperatures are mild, certainly not comparable to our own country.

In addition, it is easy to reach from the UK, because there are several direct flights that go there every day. Still a nice idea, if your holiday home is easy to reach!

Pros: beautiful beaches, great climate, easy to reach

Cons: nothing!

The south: Costa de Almería, Costa Tropical, Costa del Sol and Costa de la Luz

If you are looking for heat, then you should be in the south of Spain. The Costa de Almería, Costa Tropical, Costa del Sol and Costa de la Luz are also popular places regarding holiday homes.

This is because it's easily accessible, the weather is almost always good and delicious food (tapas!) can be found in this area. Besides, the population in Andalusia is known for their friendliness and hospitality. Moreover, there are many beautiful cities such as Sevilla, Granada and Córdoba a stone's throw away.

Advantages: good food, good climate, nice mentality

Cons: can get too hot, further away from the UK

Our choice: the Costa Blanca and Costa Cálida!

Our preference is undoubtedly the Costa Blanca and Costa Cálida, which is also our area of work. So if you are searching for a nice house in this beautiful area, please do not hesitate to contact us.

We have a portfolio full of numerous properties on both coasts, so if you would like to take a look at our range for yourself, you can do so here. We are happy to help you realize your dream: to buy a great house in Spain, in a place where you feel at home!

Inland or on the coast?

Even though many foreigners choose a place on the Spanish coast, a house in the interior is of course also an option. These are the considerations to keep in mind when deciding where to buy a house in Spain.

In the interior of Spain, the climate is generally more extreme. A good example of this is Sevilla. This beautiful city in Andalusia is located inland.

In the summer the temperatures here rise to forty degrees, while in the winter it drops sharply. You will notice that if you compare this to a coastal city such as Málaga, the climate is milder. The temperatures are less extreme, which is more attractive to many foreign people.

Except for the bigger, tourist cities, you will also notice that the population in the interior speaks less English. This is of course not a problem if you already master (dominate) the Spanish language, but if you are not yet able to do so, it can cause some difficulties.

On the other hand, it is another good reason to learn the language, because you can hardly do otherwise! At Rayos de Sol we speak Spanish, so we can guide you through your purchase without you having to speak the language.
