Torre de la Horadada and the surrounding coast were often ravaged by pirates in the past. They went ashore and then went inland to plunder. To warn that pirates were coming, numerous towers were built on the coast. In Torre de la Horadada, between the beaches of Playa del Puerto and Playa del Conde, you will find Torre Vigía, which was built in 1591 under Philip II. This piece of cultural heritage has a sober appearance, has several windows and has battlements at the top. Today the tower is attached to a private residence.
If you move into the center of Pilar de la Horadada, you can admire two interesting churches: the Iglesia Parroquial de Nuestra Señora del Pilar, and the Iglesia Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. On the coast, more specifically at Playa del Río, you can still see traces of an old Roman quarry. The Romans are said to have extracted rocks from here which they then used for the construction of the important Via Augusta road and other construction projects.
