The most exciting activities and attractions along the Costa Blanca

Costa Blanca is a fantastic location for a first (or second) home beneath the Spanish sun. There’s more than just beautiful weather and kilometres of beaches here: culture vultures and lovers of the great outdoors have a wealth of options at their disposal. Want to go for a hike? Visit a castle? Maybe you prefer a day out shopping or at an amusement park? Costa Blanca has it all. In this article, we describe several highlights that you absolutely cannot miss!

Nature and culture on the Costa Blanca

It goes without saying that a refreshing dip in the clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea or relaxing poolside with a tropical cocktail are both excellent options. However, why not pay a visit to the stunning Algar waterfalls as well? It’s Costa Blanca’s hidden gem, only an hour's drive from Torrevieja. It makes for an unforgettable day trip. The same goes for a day of hiking in the Peñón de Ifach in Calpe. This 332 m tall outcrop appears to rise right out of the Mediterranean Sea and boasts a breathtaking view of the coastline.

Costa Blanca’s castles also deserve some attention here. The Castillo de Santa Bárbara is a fantastic place to pay your first castle visit: a 9th century castle in Alicante that sits atop the 166 m hill Benacantil and offers a spectacular view of the city.

Are you close to Benidorm? If so, a visit to El Castell de Guadalest will very much be worth your while. Last but not least, the salt lakes in Torrevieja need to be mentioned as well. The ‘Salina van Torrevieja en La Mata’ form an extensive nature reserve with cycling paths, picnicking locations and hiking routes. You can spend hours admiring the natural beauty of the park, with the pink salt lake being one of the absolute high points of the visit.

Other activities in Costa Blanca

Entertainment and amusement parks for the young and old abound along the entire Costa Blanca. For example, Terra Mitica is an amusement park in Benidorm with exciting roller coasters and Terra Natura is a fantastic animal park, which mimics natural habitats so that the visitor can feel even closer to the animals. Another excellent, child-friendly animal park is Mundomar, which is perfect for families.

Do you prefer aquatic activities? If so, why not pay a visit to Aqua Natura Waterpark or Aqualandia? If you’re more adventurous, take a boat trip! Each day, boats leave from the harbours of Torrevieja and Alicante towards places like the pirate island Tabarca. You’ll sail for one hour to the smallest inhabited island in Spain, full of expansive panoramas, picturesque winding streets and colourful homes.

If you are in Alicante, we also highly recommend taking the train to Denia. The train travels for one and half hours along the coast, providing you with spectacular views of the deep blue sea and the impressive mountainous landscape. Along the way, you’ll pass through famous places such as Benidorm, Altea and Calpe, where you can spend the day shopping, enjoying a freshly prepared paella and sipping a refreshing sangria at an outdoor cafe.
